Rouella's Funtastical Journey

Wander · Eat · Remember

Fethiye continued

March 14, 2024

After walking along the Fethiye Harbor last night, we woke up ready to explore the rest of Fethiye.

But before that a little bit about our hotel. It's quite lovely and they have some hip fashion displayed in the hallways. Also, Harneet is smitten since the guy he's been crushing on for years apparently stayed here.

Our first destination for exploration was the Amyntas Rock Tombs. After passing by hens and cocks and oranges and lemons on the short walk, we reached our destination. So many tombs just walking distance from the old city. Here are some of the pictures I took.

We had the museum in town on our list but it is closed for renovation right now.

So we got out the car and headed to the Kayakoy ghost village. This was the highlight of today. The village has a deep history. It once had a population of 6500 and now has just 975 people. It is called a ghost village due to the empty Greek houses here. During the Greco-turkey war, all the Christians were made to leave the village and move to Greece and the Muslims were made to leave Greece and move to Turkey. Quite a sad story. We did a lot of climbing and got some good pictures. We were joined by a turtle friend on the top too - see how fast it moves!

Before heading to Kaykoy, we grabbed a to-go snack - a spinach Gozleme from this lovely place in Fethiye called Fethiye Gozleme Cafe. One more Turkey food list item achieved.

And our last destination before a relaxing evening was checking out beautiful Oludinez beach. The blue waters were mesmerizing and we tried some experimental photo shots here.

We were starving by now. Made our way back to the old city for some dessert. This was the first time I tried Katmer. It was recommended by the sweet lady at Ulaslioglu Baklava Fethiye. I went there with the intention of feasting on Kunefe but was blown away by Katmer. Warm, gooey, pistachiooy and kaymaki - everything was perfect. Definitely something I will try to make when I get back. Also two coffee places we tried that were really good - Keci Coffee Roastery (they had a cool story on the history of coffee here) and Cofhilus Coffee House.

And lastly, we grabbed dinner at Pasa Kebab. Highly recommend - their eggplant dip with pistachio was particularly delicious.

We start early tomorrow as we wind up this road trip and head back to Istanbul. Until then...
