Whirlwind trip part 2
Picking up where my last post left off - terrified of heavy winds, we decided to head out and take it easy by just taking trams. After a few false starts, I do "think" we kinda figured it out. We didn't get on the specific tram we wanted - "St Charles" - due to cancellations but got to try another one. Again - worried about the hurricane that was not going to hit us, we stayed in after that eating the Mufuletta and Cubano we packed from Cochon, and watching "Interview with the vampire" - a movie I had never watched. I bet it was fantastic back in the day but I couldn't help but laugh at the horrid acting lol. It was fun though pointing out sights we had seen.
After a good night's sleep, we had a full day planned for yesterday. It started at Loretta's where we tried out their praline and crab beignets. Twas okay but not nearly as good as Du Monde. We then took a walk around Jackson Square where I had a custom poem written for me on a typewriter. We also checked out the local art and paid a visit to the St. Louis Cathedral. We also did a bit of shopping and visited a local bookshop.

We tried to find a Garden district tour that would be at a time that worked for us but didn't succeed so we boarded the oldest St. Charles tram and decided to follow a walking tour online. It was actually pretty great and I would recommend it. We spotted a bunch of other folks stopping at the same spots 🤣. It was great seeing some of the brilliant architecture and learning about folks who owned these properties. Lafayette cemetery was closed to the public but we got a peek in through the gate.

Now it was getting hot and we were le Tired. So we took the long tram ride back to the french quarter to try out some chargrilled oysters. Our original destination was Acme. But after seeing the line, we went across the street to Felix. The chargrilled oysters were delicious but drowning in butter (fair warning). We also got their combo so we could try jambalaya, red beans and rice and their etoufee - all delicious. Properly full, we got back to the hotel to get off our feet and rest.

And then we headed out to a French Quarter Ghost and Vampire tour. Our tour guide was fantastic and regaled us with legends, lore and stories about haunted hotels, a city built on a cemetery, murders, vampire stories and evil spirits. I could write an entire blog on just that but will instead recommend that folks visiting take this tour! I was afraid to take too many pics but here are a few.

With the butter still in our belly, we just shared a salad and rested a bit before deciding that we had to try some local icecream 🤣. Highly recommend checking out sweet saint. Amazing icecream and awesome flavors.
And I now land on today. Today was more beignets from Du Monde (tried their frozen coffee which was fantastic), more shopping, more strolling, visiting the historic New Orleans collection museum (fantastic organ demo), a poboy from Johnny's and we are now just waiting for our flight to take off. P.S. also, we kept whining about the lack of street signs in the French quarter. Turns out they are actually on the street 🤦🏽♀️.
