Switzerland continued!

My last post of this vacation series!!!
I ended my previous post with us arriving in Zermatt. Zermatt is a ski resort town in Switzerland that is famous for the Matterhorn mountain. It had plenty of great hikes but since we were traveling light, we weren't prepared with the right shoes and gear. We did walk around Zermatt and caught some amazing views of the Matterhorn though.

On our way back to Zurich, we stopped at Bern which is the capital of Switzerland. Another historic town to explore. In Bern, we checked out a few different sights including a lovely church, a walk along the river, their clock tower and parliament house. At the parliament house, we also caught sight of a movie shoot for a German movie!

Budget saving tip number 4: Find an ass bar shop 😂. Here they sell local day old sandwiches and baked goods. The primary goal of this is to reduce food waste which is a noble cause as a plus.

After Bern we made our way back to Zurich. That night and the next morning, we spent exploring Zurich. From the old town to a few famous churches (Grossmunster and Fraumunster) to views from Lindenhof terrace to roman baths (which we found by fluke while wandering) and lastly Lake Zurich. At the lake, I was amused at how used to humans the swans were. This is what happens when humans feed birds despite being told not to.

Our last afternoon in Switzerland was all about train rides. We hopped on a regional train around 11:30 to see some gorgeous views. Our trip consisted of the following route: Zurich to Chur to St. Moritz to Alp Grum. This was the most gorgeous train ride with views of lakes and glaciers and fields and was far more than we imagined. After taking in the vistas at Alp Grum, we hopped on a bunch of trains back to Zurich!

Budget saving tip number 5: Get the swiss travel pass when visiting. We did the math and with just the train rides, we ended up saving around 600 dollars overall for two people!
And that was switzerland. If you have been following my posts, I mentioned that on our way back home, we had one last night in Stockholm. i.e. another chance for cake! Some new cool discoveries on this night, a tunnel under a bridge to connect parliament buildings and signals that have two people with a heart for the walk sign ♥️.

And that was our vacation. On our long journey back, I was grateful for a break and for the chance to explore as much as I did. I'm back refreshed and with so many fun memories.
Before I sign off, here is another fun sign to bring a smile to your face - spotted in a restaurant in Rhodes!
