Anniversary vacay

For those of you who have known me and Harneet for a while, you know that we try to travel somewhere every anniversary. And it is that time of year again for a very special anniversary - our Tiniversary.
This time we are traveling to countries we have visited before - but not together - Portugal and Spain.
To get to Lisbon, we had a layover in Amsterdam. We took advantage of the six hour layover to head to the city for a walk and some fresh air.
At the train station, we were the only people with masks on. So a kind security guard came up to us to tell us that "we don't need to wear face diapers here!" 🤣🤣🤣. Properly chastised and with new terminology under our belt, we got on the train and headed over to Winkel 43 for some much needed coffee and Dutch apple pie! DO NOT MISS THIS if you ever head to Amsterdam.

Satisfied and full, we got back to the airport, put on our face diapers and with plenty of time to spare boarded our flight to Lisboa. We were exhausted by then and slept through the entire flight. We barely noticed that it was delayed. We finally got to Lisbon, and decided to take a bus to the hotel. And then of course, got off at the wrong stop and had to walk almost 30 mins to the hotel. Thank heavens for a chestnut roaster on the way to satiate our hunger. I love roasted chestnuts so this made me so happy.

We finally got to the hotel, checked in, freshened up and headed out to walk and walk and walk and walk.
The walking involved was in our hunt for good Peri Peri chicken. There were two places people recommended. The first took some hunting and when we got there, we learned they take only cash. So we trekked to an ATM, got some cash and rushed back to the restaurant. Only to be told that they are closing early. It's a good thing we had a backup since Harneet was really looking forward to that chicken. Bonjardim did not disappoint and the peri peri sauce looked very different than I expected.

After walking a bunch more and grabbing some pastel de nata from Fabrica da nata, we called it a night.
This morning we explored more of Lisbon. Strolling around we checked out the art that is everywhere along with the statues and monuments. I also saw a church that was supposedly bombed in world war 2 and never reconstructed - something I had missed the last time I was here.

And then we finally grabbed some lunch (a bifana sandwich is a traditional lunch sandwich -we got this from a hole in the wall called Beira Gare). We then got more pastel de nata for the road before boarding our train to Faro. I am writing this post from that train and will keep you posted on what we do next!

P.S. Here is a fun sign in the restroom of a coffee shop we stopped at (Copenhagen coffee roasters).
