Brrrrrr but worth it?

We made it to Taos late last night after a quick stop in Santa Fe for some New Mexican fare at Tomasita's. Pillowy sopapillas and chili rellenos. We were so hungry that I forgot to take a pic!
First thing on our list in Taos was catching the sunrise over the gouge. So we woke up at an unearthly hour to catch the most beautiful earthly site. Check out the fiery sky and the beautiful Taos river gorge.

We had some lovely green chile tamales for breakfast (brought to our room at our lovely bed and breakfast). This room was in a mudhouse and it felt like living in a different era.

After grabbing coffee at The Coffee Apothecary, we headed to Taos Pueblo - a UNESCO heritage site - a living indigenous village. Since it was off season, we got an exclusive tour and got to ask tons of questions. We learned about the Spanish colonization, the resilience of the Pueblos and how much pride they have in their heritage.

And last on our Taos list was visiting the Earthship Biotecture. This was super cool. It demonstrated how houses could be self reliant - with their own water, power and food sources. There are a number of earthships, including a few in Washington state that I plan to checkout.

And that was only half our day. We then headed over to Santa Fe taking the high road between the cities. This was a scenic drive that took us through many little villages. Most of them looked abandoned but we did stop and see a few lovely chapels along the way.

Once we got to Santa Fe, we grabbed a well deserved yummy coffee from Iconik before checking out the Meow Wolf museum. How do I describe this place. It's like a bunch of artists came together while high on psychedelics and decided to go crazy. I LOVED IT. There was a story theme that I felt I needed at least 4-6 hours for with my two sisters who enjoy puzzles as much as me. Some other time. Here is a quick glimpse of the madness - I was Alice in Wonderland.

You are probably wondering how we fit so much into one day. I am too. We are near the end. After a delicious dinner at The Pantry (the most delicious green chile stew), I have crashed in my bed from where this post is being written. Tomorrow we explore more of Santa Fe and head to another fun destination.
